A great weekend in Lansing

Posted by Dennis Lennox in campaign

Republicans from across this great state gathered in Lansing on Friday and Saturday for the 2009 Michigan Republican Party convention, which was responsible for electing the party's new leadership.

With the help of some great volunteers, Team Lennox had an awesome presence throughout the convention.

I also had the opportunity to meet and network with several legislators. Northern Michigan's next state representative will be required to get working on day one; taxpayers want someone who can get the job done.

Many of the delegates and guests at the convention approached me about my proposal aimed at reforming local government by allowing Cheboygan County to fire me and abolish the office of drain commissioner. The response was very positive, and I look forward to getting the bill through the Legislature.

In case you missed it

The Muskegon Chronicle newspaper applauded my proposal to fire myself and abolish the office of drain commissioner in Cheboygan County in an editorial published in Friday's newspaper:

Lt. Gov. John Cherry also should take up Lennox's suggestion as he leads an effort to streamline state government -- and to cut its cost.

Cherry has been directed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm to form a blue-ribbon panel and report on possible reforms and streamlining in state and local government.
